The Right Washing Method, Step by Step

Step 1 — Turn Inside Out Before Every Wash

Not just new tees. Every single wash. The print faces inward against soft fabric instead of rubbing against the drum wall or the hardware on other clothes. Five seconds of prep. Skipping it is how you sand your print off over twenty cycles.

Step 2 — Cold Water, Gentle or Delicate Cycle

Cold means cold: 30°C (86°F) or below. That's the threshold on care labels, and it's where heat starts working on the binder. Warm water seems harmless; over twenty washes, it adds up.

Use gentle or delicate. Normal and heavy-duty cycles run higher agitation — fine for jeans and towels, not for a print you want to keep sharp.

Step 3 — Skip Fabric Softener

Fabric softener deposits a waxy coating on fibers. Short-term, the shirt feels softer. Over repeated washes, that buildup degrades the bond between binder and fiber. If you've had a tee go chalky or start peeling at the edges, fabric softener is often part of the story.

Skip it on graphic tees. If you must use it, a small amount diluted in the rinse cycle at most — and know you're trading some print life for it.

Ironing: Never iron directly on the print. Turn the shirt inside out and use low heat. If you need to press the front, put a thin pressing cloth between the iron and the graphic. No steam directly on the ink.

Storage: Hang it or fold it print-side out. Don't pile heavy items on top of a folded graphic tee — sustained pressure can cause the print to adhere to the fabric stacked above it and peel away when separated.
